The Story Behind Vincent – Starry Nights on the Needles

Welcome to my workshop. Please, have a seat, pour yourself a good cup of hot coffee or tea, and let's dwell for a moment on the story behind the yarn Vincent.

The Colours, The Mood, and The Song

As I stood by the dye pots creating this yarn, Don McLean's beautiful and melancholic classic "Vincent" (perhaps better known as "Starry, Starry Night") was playing on the speakers. The song is a tribute to Vincent van Gogh's famous painting of the starry sky, and it was precisely that magic I wanted to capture in the fibres.

The yarn's deep, dreamy petroleum tone is like the late evening sky – full of calm, depth, and secrets. The delicate glitter thread, spun directly into the chainette structure, catches the light very discreetly, just like the tiny, shimmering stars on a dark night. The colour and the song are inseparably linked; they both carry the same soft, comforting, and slightly poetic atmosphere that invites contemplation and peace of mind.

The Story Behind the Song

Don McLean wrote the song in 1970 when he was reading a book about van Gogh's life. He was so moved by the artist's fate and his ability to see beauty and light in the darkness that the melody practically wrote itself. If you listen closely, the song is not just about a painting, but about understanding another person's feelings and caring for what is delicate and fragile.

When van Gogh painted his nights, he didn't just see a dark void; he saw swirls of light, warmth, and colours. It is precisely that feeling I wish to pass on to you with your needles: that with this yarn, you can create your own little piece of handmade light and beauty.
